Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters this weekend and it is absolutely phenomenal. Easily one of the best theater going experiences I've ever had, and I cannot wait to see it again. Everything about it is truly fantastic, an enormous spectacle, and incredibly emotional. Avengers 4 can't get here fast enough.
Possible Mild Spoilers
Released along side of Hasbro's 6 inch Avengers figures was a Deluxe assortment of figures including Hulk and a Rocket Raccoon & Groot 2-pack. It took me a little while to get my hands on them, but earlier this month I did and figured it was time to take a look at them. I'm also really looking forward to the second series of figures (including Dr. Strange, Spider-man, Scarlet Witch, Gamora, and Falcon) and the Deluxe Hulkbuster figure.
THE GOOD
Just like the regular figures, the sculpts are pretty great. Rocket and Groot look fantastic, while the Hulk's sculpt looks a little soft. It's still pretty nice though, nice and bulky but way too short. These guys have limited articulation but what is there works great. Hulk and Groot's arms have a nice range of motion, although I do miss the elbow joints on rocket. Just like the articulation, the paint is pretty simple, but not sloppy. Just watch the eyes!
I think the big draw to me for these figures is the excellent sculpts, and the ease of availability. There aren't any random comic designs or characters cluttering up the wave and clogging shelves like we sometimes see with Marvel Legends. Meaning we get more space for the movie design figures we're looking for.
THE BAD
I still really miss the knee joints. I recently picked up a Black Panther figure to fill out my Avengers roster and Hasbro had removed the joint by then too. I don't think it's too much to ask for, especially with how limited some of the paint schemes are. The similarly priced DC figures have twice the articulation for the same price. I don't really need ankles, and wrist joints (though I wouldn't object!) but at the very least give us some pin knees!
THE UGLY
Yikes! If you can try and pick these guys up at retail so you can inspect the paint. I bought mine online a got pretty lucky with Hulk. His eyes aren't great, but they could have been so much worse. The only paint that falls flat for me is Rocket's. It just needs a little something to punch it up a bit.
Each figure comes with an "Infinity Stone" that's designed to work with Hasbro's Hero Vision AR System. They're there, take 'em or leave 'em. I don't particularly have any interest in them, but I'm sure it's a fun experience for kids. Rocket does come with a big ass gun so I'm happy.
OVERALL
This is another fun couple of figures from Hasbro, and probably the most economical way to assemble the massive roster of characters from Infinity War. I just hope we can get some villains for these guys to fight. Maybe a Deluxe Thanos and Cull Obsidian, with Ebony Maw, Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, and some Outriders in the basic line. There's lots of time between now and Avengers 4...
