Retro Review - How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) Action Figures by Playmates

I'm back, with one last review right before Christmas! I've had an extremely busy and difficult couple of months but I haven't stopped buying toys, action figures, and collectibles. I apologize for the lack of review, but I hope to get back to updating this blog more regularly. While I have a few things put aside for future reviews and retrospectives, these guys simply could not wait.

Quick Review - Star Wars The Black Series Range Trooper 6" Figure by Hasbro

Last week SOLO finally hit theaters and I'm surprised to admit, it's probably my favorite of the Disney era Star Wars films. I enjoyed it after my first viewing, but I watched it with my guard up. Still feeling betrayed by The Last Jedi, but after seeing it a second time opening weekend I loved it. While Rogue One's characters are a little flat, and The Force Awakens suffers as a result of The Last Jedi, Solo is an incredibly fun, entertaining, and well made Star Wars movie. It really captured the spirit of not only Han Solo, but the lightheartedness of A New Hope and felt like a bit of a throw back. The underworld and western vibes in the film also help set it apart from the regular old Jedi business or Galactic Civil War conflicts.

Retro Review - Spider-man Battle Ravaged Spider-man and Green Goblin Action Figures by ToyBiz

Today marks the One Year anniversary of when I started this blog and to celebrate I thought I'd do a little something special. My first review was Hasbro's 6 Inch Spider-man Homecoming figures so in keeping with a similar theme I thought I'd take a look at some other Spider-man movie toys from yesteryear. In 2002 ToyBiz released their exceptional Spider-man movie tie in line and today I'm going to take a look at two figures I missed out on as a kid.

Quick Review - Star Wars The Black Series Han Solo 6" Figure by Hasbro

After and long and troubled production, SOLO is finally going to hit theaters in less than a month. I'm cautiously optimistic, I was really looking forward to the film but the unexpected firing of the Directors half way through shooting has me on edge. I do trust Ron Howard and am hopeful he was able to put together what could be Disney's best Star Wars outing yet.

Quick Review - Avengers: Infinity War 6 Inch Deluxe Figures by Hasbro

Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters this weekend and it is absolutely phenomenal. Easily one of the best theater going experiences I've ever had, and I cannot wait to see it again. Everything about it is truly fantastic, an enormous spectacle, and incredibly emotional. Avengers 4 can't get here fast enough.

Review - Avengers: Infinity War Marvel Legends by Hasbro

Spring tends to be my favorite time of year and I'm not sure if that's because the cold Canadian winter is behind us, or because the next Marvel Studio's release is right around the corner. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic, but I have fond memories of seeing Iron Man, Thor, and The Avengers in high school and College. This year Marvel isn't holding anything back with the release of Avengers: Infinity War, ten years of story telling has lead to this unprecedented event.

Review - Avengers: Infinity War 6 Inch Figures by Hasbro

This is it, ten years and 18 films have all lead to this moment. Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters this spring and it is bound to be the biggest comic book superhero film of all time. Heroes from all corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will assemble to battle the mad titan Thanos and I absolutely cannot wait to experience it. I can still remember my friends looking over to me in the theater at the end of Iron Man, asking me what the "Avengers Initiative" was, and my trying to pick my jaw up off the floor. I never expected an onscreen universe as immense as this, and done so perfectly. A film of this magnitude is obviously going to have an incredible amount of merchandise associated with it and today I'm going to take a look at one small portion of it.

Quick Review - Justice League Action 4.5" Figures by Mattel

Since the Justice League movie came out in November I've been getting back into DC comics a little bit more. Reading the phenomenal Doomsday Clock, replaying the Batman Arkham games, and watching the latest animated series Justice League Action. I enjoy the new cartoon quite a bit actually. It's a lighthearted, fun, action adventure cartoon that doesn't take itself too seriously and plays with absolutely everything in the DC Universe.

Retro Review - Spider-man The Animated Series Happy Meal Toys from McDonald's

One of the best parts of growing up in the 90's was the cartoons, especially the superhero ones. Nearly every character had one, or appeared on one. Batman, Superman, The Fantastic Four, Hulk, Iron Man, X-men, Silver Surfer, and of course Spider-man ruled the airwaves and prepared kids for the onslaught of superhero film that were to come. Obviously, with a successful cartoon it only made sense for fast food restaurants to create a line of tie in kids meal toys. The main two lines I remember ruling the toy box as a kid were Batman: The Animated Series and Spider-man. So a few months ago I went on a nostalgia trip and purchased a couple sets of these toys and today I'm going to take a look back at McDonald's Spider-man Happy Meal toys from 1995.

Review - Dragon Ball Super Goku and Frieza Dragon Stars by Bandai

A few weeks ago I was in one of my local comic book stores and I stumbled upon wave 2 of Bandai's Dragon Stars figures. A wave of nostalgia washed over me and I was reminded of watching Dragon Ball Z as a kid weeknight on YTV (the Canadian Opening was the best). I'm not a big fan of anime, but Dragon Ball Z will always hold a special place in my heart. The Frieza Saga was always my favorite so I was happy to find a Final Form Frieza along with a classic Goku. The Dragon Stars line feels like Bandai's answer to Marvel Legends, with similar packaging and scale, and no where near as expensive as some of the SH Figuarts. It's a pretty nice, moderately priced line of action figures.
