Review - Marvel Legends Thor and Loki Ragnarok Figures by Hasbro

Thor and Hulk are hitting the road this coming November and it looks like it's going to be one wild ride. Thor: Ragnarok is the next big release in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the filmmakers are absolutely trying something new. The first teaser trailer landed and blew everybody away. Shifting tones more towards something like Guardians of the Galaxy looks like it's going to pay off in a big way. With the film around the corner, the toys have started making their way to retail and today we're going to be taking a look at the Marvel Legends 6" versions of Thor and Loki.

The sons of Odin each come PACKAGED in the standard Marvel Legends window box, this time with some nice neon colors and the retro styled Ragnarok logo. The boxes look great, and this is probably just my sample but one of Thor's swords became dislodged, however the real problem is inside tray. Both Thor's and Loki's helmets became misshapen from the inside tray. Thor's isn't too bad and it's just the tips of the wings, but Loki's was smushed to the point that it doesn't quite fit on his face properly.

The SCULPTING on each figure is fantastic. I was surprised at how beefy the Thor figure was. He really feels like the God of thunder. The helmet is sculpted to the head and can't be removed. It looks great regardless and would have probably looked dorky and over sized if it was removable. Loki's head sculpt is incredible, and he has really cool and creepy sculpted hands. However, I'm not crazy about the costume. The sculpt is great, but I find the design a little lack luster. It's a step back from what from what they did in the first two films; the interweaving of materials and intricate designs. Thor fares better with a design reminiscent of the other costumes plus gladiator armor, and looks great with the color accented shoulder and shin pieces.

Now, both these guys have major cape problems. Thor's makes out better than Loki though. His cape is secured at two different points, his left shoulder and his right hip. The hip peg pops in and holds really well while the shoulder peg slides back out more easily, but only when posing. Loki's cape is held in with two teenie tiny little pegs in the top of his shoulders, and they slide out just by looking at them. His long hair helps keep them in place a little bit, but I'm very tempted to super glue them in. It's also almost impossible to secure it back in place without popping his head off.

The PAINT on these guys is solid. I think this is one of the few cases where a little bit of slop would go unnoticed on Thor. Thor looks great, the overall black and brown costume being broken up with pops of red and neon blue. The war paint looks really good, and makes this a really nice unique figure. Loki is clean through out, with a lot of deep greens and purples. There is some slop on his skirt, with some gold paint missing the mark.

The ARTICULATION on these figures is tricky. It's all there, but there are some problems. Thor's hips are a little bit restricted by the skirt, but otherwise he makes out okay. The ab crunch works really well, but often causes the cape to dislodge. Almost all the major joints on my Loki figure were loose, especially his hips and shoulders. It's so bad I even had trouble with his left arm coming off. His hair isn't as restrictive as you might think, and you can still get some good side to side movement out of it.

Each figure comes with a handful of ACCESSORIES. Once again, Thor makes out better than Loki. Thor comes with a pair of cool blue swords he uses in the Games Master's arena. He's also got a few Gladiator Hulk BAF pieces which are Hulk's head and helmet. His right leg shin guard is actually also removable, which I guess could also count as an accessory. Loki just comes with his new helmet and a Hulk leg. That's it. When I ordered the figure I assumed he came with at couple throwing knives but I was surprised to find them absent when he arrived.

OVERALL, I think these figures were a bit of a disappointment. I was really excited when I first got them, and they looked great in the package. But when I opened them up the little nit picks kept piling up. It's a shame because there was so much potential, and Marvel Legends have had a great track record of delivering excellent figures for the last 4 years or so. Hopefully the Infinity War figures are a step up and that these were just a little bump in the road. I don't think I'm going the build the Hulk BAF. Especially because Force Friday II is right around the corner.
