Review - Marvel Legends Daredevil and Punisher by Hasbro

Just in time for the release of The Defenders on Netflix, Hasbro unleashed their wave of Marvel Knights themed Marvel Legends. The wave showcases a great mix of both live action and comic designs, and features a great Build-a-Figure Man-Thing. Today I'm going to be taking a look at both Daredevil and The Punisher from the excellent live action series.

Matt Murdock and Frank Castle both come PACKAGED in the classic Marvel Legends window box, this time in a deep red color with the Daredevil Netflix logo. The front window shows off the figures nicely, and have a good balance to them. No one is awkwardly pushed off to one side to fit a BAF piece inside. The back of the box has the customary little blurb about the character, and shows off the rest of the wave and BAF nicely.

At San Diego Comic Con this year Hasbro talked about some new SCULPTING and PAINTING technologies they has begun using and boy do they look great. I believe this wave and the Thor Ragnarok figures were the first to implement these new techniques and the results are absolutely stunning. It's a little bit harder to pick up on Daredevil because of the mask, but Punisher really shows them off. Just like the Thor figures a while back, the likeness is uncanny. Though, I would have preferred a more stern look. The paint accuracy is incredible, and five o'clock shadow has never looked better on a 6 inch figure. There's lots of variation in the paint which helps add a whole new level of realism.

Daredevil is sculpted in his costume from the tail end of Season 1 and the first few episodes of Season 2. While I don't mind this costume, I think the suit used in the later half of Season 2 is superior. However, overall he looks great with one exception. Daredevil's legs look a tad too short giving him a slightly top heavy appearance. There are also some really fine textures woven throughout his suit and there is no really obvious slop between the red and black of the costume. There's a lot less color variation to the Punisher's look, but the skull on his chest looks absolutely incredible. The stark contrast between all the black and that little bit of white make it really pop.

This time around, all of the ARTICULATION works exceptionally well. You might think Punisher's coat may be restrictive but it's soft and loose enough that it doesn't hinder really in any way. My only super minor nit pick on Punisher is that of the neck joint is glaringly visible on the back of his neck. Other than that, everything is nice and tight and hold well while posing. Daredevil's articulation and sculpt work together beautifully giving you and incredible number of posing possibilities. There's one really clever trick they did where the holder for his clubs on his left leg is only attached at the bottom strap. The upper strap is sculpted in place but not attached to the back of holder so it doesn't hinder at all while maintaining the look of being secured by two straps.

Both figures come with a number of character specific ACCESSORIES. The each include a piece of the great looking Man-Thing BAF; Daredevil has his head, while Punisher has his left arm. Daredevil also comes with his customary billy clubs, which can easily attach together, and an extra pair of hands. The hands swap nicely as always and I'm glad to see him come with a pair of fists as well as the semi closed pair. The only this I think is missing is maybe a second head sculpt. I would have really like to see a battle damaged head with the welded seam from when Punisher shot him. Speaking of which, Punisher comes armed with a Colt M4A1 fitted with an M203 grenade launcher and a Para 1911 G.I. Expert. No, I'm not some sort of gun nut, those are just my best guesses based on the information over at the Internet Movie Firearms Database. They both fit really nicely into his sculpted hands and I'm so happy Hasbro included a pair of realistic looking firearms.

OVERALL, these figures are fantastic. Much improved over the Thor Ragnarok wave. I'm glad to see that was just a hiccup and not indicative of a new trend. Hopefully Hasbro gives us more figures based on the Netflix series, but not just the other heroes like Luke Cage and Iron Fist. I want a Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk, and Stick figures to add to my collection.
