Review - Marvel Legends Exclusive Invisible Woman by Hasbro

The Fantastic Four have had a rough couple of years. First their comic gets cancelled and then their big new movie flops with critics and audiences alike. Not quite the treatment you would expect for Marvel's First Family. Well, hopefully things are on the upward swing with Hasbro releasing a series of exclusive figures at Walgreens (EB Games up here in the great white north) starting with Sue Storm the Invisible Woman. I was a little hesitant at first to pick her up, but as soon as The Human Torch was announced I snatched one up as quick as I could. With the rumored Super Skrull figure, and Mr. Fantastic himself being announced at SDCC, all that awaits is the ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing.

Invisible Woman looks fantastic PACKAGED in the now classic Marvel Legends window box. It's great seeing the Fantastic Four logo and promo art again, it feels like it has been far too long. One of the best aspects of this figure is that she comes with HERBIE himself, the FF's robotic sidekick. He's shown off nicely right beside Sue and is a much welcomed bonus. The back of the box shows off the figures nicely, and has a super basic blurb about the characters.

The SCULPTING on these two are pretty basic, but effective. There's no complex parts to the costume, just some good old fashioned tights. It's always nice to see a figure with the classic costume, after the endless redesigns of the last few years. Sue's head sculpt it a little generic, but gets the job done nicely. HERBIE looks great, and has a nice 60's vibe to his design. The only weird thing is Sue has a big peg hole right in the middle of her back, it's not uncommon but a little distracting.

Basic design also mean basic PAINT. I don't mean that in a bad way, the designs are simple but classic. The paint is consistent throughout, with no slop and clean cut lines. The shade of the blue suit does vary a bit between parts but it's not that noticeable. The really cool thing they did was the semi-transparent right arm. It's subtle enough that it's not right in your face, but does add some visual interest to the figure.

Invisible Woman has all of the standard Marvel Legends ARTICULATION that you would expect, and it all works exceptionally well. The hair sculpt isn't as restrictive as you might think at first, and gives you a decent range of motion. Everything else is unrestricted because of the simplicity of the classic costume, and works well for fighting Skrulls or taking down Dr. Doom. HERBIE also has a great ball jointed neck, that has quite a bit of movement it in. It's not necessary, but completely appreciated.

Along with HERBIE, Sue comes with two extra ACCESSORIES. Well, perhaps maybe one. The first is a clear base with a rod in it to create the HERBIE floating effect. The other is an alternate left hand that's also semi-transparent. It swaps really easily, and looks great in action poses. I'm a little disappointed she didn't come with some sort of force field effect piece to hold, but I much prefer HERBIE to something like that.

OVERALL, this figure is a great addition to any Marvel Legends collection, and an excellent update to a character we haven't seen in a long time. Hopefully a Ben Grimm/Thing figure announcement is right around the corner (please not a Build-a-Figure), so we can finally have modern updates of Marvel's First Family, the Fantastic Four.
